We can generally speak of two types of hyperventilation: “the acute hyperventilation attack” and “chronic hyperventilation”. Hyperventilation literally means “breathing too rapidly or too deeply”, which results in hyperventilation.

The most common symptoms of hyperventilation are:

  • Increased heart rate.
  • Nausea/headache.
  • The feeling that you are choking/dry mouth.
